The Hollywood Reporter says Watchmen is moving ahead with some big names at Paramount...

"Watchmen," the seminal DC Comics limited series, has landed at Paramount Pictures. Darren Aronofsky will develop and direct the project, which is being written by David Hayter. Aronofsky's producing partner Eric Watson will produce with Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin. "Watchmen," created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, was released as a 12-issue comic book in 1986 and is one of the most critically acclaimed series in the genre. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes.

La Paramount produrrà il film per il 2006. Il regista Paul Greengrass (del buono "The Bourne Supremacy") dirigerà l'adattamento della monumentale miniserie DC del 1986. Di origine britannica (sua maestà Alan Moore la scrisse, per i disegni di Dave Gibbons), l'opera trattava in modo iperrealistico e grottesco dei supereroi a stelle e strisce.
Si tratta, quasi inutile dirlo, del più grande capolavoro in assoluto del Fumetto americano.

...Iniziò tutto con l'assassinio del sadico eroe Il Comico, e con le folli paranoie dell'eroe mezzo matto Rorschach. Ma Rorschach era davvero pazzo, o aveva svelato un diabolico piano per sterminare tutti i supereroi e, con loro, milioni di innocenti? The official Watchmen website is now online. There's not much there yet other than the familiar smiley face and Paramount lists the movie as a 2006 release.
Paul Greengrass ("The Bourne Supremacy") is directing the big screen adaptation of the DC Comics series of the same name, originally published in 1986. Alan Moore wrote Watchmen which features art by Dave Gibbons.
Here is how DC Comics describes the 12-part series:
It all begins with the paranoid delusions of a half-insane hero called Rorschach. But is Rorschach really insane or has he in fact uncovered a plot to murder super-heroes and, even worse, millions of innocent civilians? On the run from the law, Rorschach reunites with his former teammates in a desperate attempt to save the world and their lives, but what they uncover will shock them to their very core and change the face of the planet! Ah, quindi sarà Greengrass a dirigerlo. Diciamo che avrei preferito Aronofsky.
Mah, non so bene cosa pensare. Da un lato vorrei davvero vedere un film tratto da Watchmen, dall'altro ho paura della banalizzazione che sta proprio dietro l'angolo in produzioni del genere. Diciamo poi che ho anche qualche dubbio sulla effettiva adattabilità di Watchmen per il grande schermo. Magari se coinvolgessero attivamente Moore...

Not to mention early costume designs for Nite Owl and Rorschach that seek to bring them up to date without losing their trademark look. Nite Owl, in particular, now looks harder and more metallic, and slightly less like a man dressed as a giant owl.
 
More importantly, we saw an animatic version of the first three minutes of the film, a sort of pre-shooting test that is increasingly used as a sort of animated storyboard to give the director, producers and anyone else who needs to know a clue about what this is going to look like. And if this is any clue, Watchmen is going to look spectacular.

Il progetto si è arenato. I diritti sul film sono stati ceduti dalla Paramount alla Warner e quindi si ricomincia da capo.

Meglio, così ho più tempo per leggermi il fumetto che avevo acquistato con la Repubblica

La misteriosa scomparsa di Watchmen
Dell'atteso film tratto dal fumetto della DC Comics si è persa ogni traccia
L'annunciato Watchmen, film basato sul capolavoro scritto da Alan Moore e disegnato da Dave Gibbons, è scomparso nel nulla. Dallo scorso febbraio, quando è stata annunciata l'apertura del sito ufficiale della pellicola (notizie/2451), il progetto sembra essere sparito in uno dei tanti buchi neri di Hollywood. A dieci mesi di distanza il sito del film non è più on line: digitando www.watchmenmovie.com, si viene automaticamente reindirizzati alla sezione film del sito della Paramount.

Il mistero è stato risolto dal magazine on line Filmforce.ign.com: dopo aver abbandonato il progetto, la Paramount ha ceduto i diritti alla Warner. Ad annunciarlo sono stati i produttori Lloyd Levin e Larry Gordon, che contestualmente hanno comunicato un cambio alla regia e alla sceneggiatura. Tuttavia non sono ancora stati fatti i nomi dei sostituti di Paul Greengrass e David Hayter.

Con questo colpo la Warner, già produttrice della serie di Harry Potter, di Batman Begins e Superman Returns, si è assicurata un alto titolo di grande prestigio. Per il 2006, inoltre, è attesa un'altra trasposizione del lavoro di Moore: da marzo sarà sugli schermi V for Vendetta, interpretato da Natalie Portman (Guerre Stellari) e Hugo Weaving (Il Signore degli Anelli e Matrix.

Oh Deo.....il film di Watchmen!!! Già mi sento male!!!!

Spero che non si trasformi in uno stupro del fumetto, sennò ci sarà del sangue di registi e produttori nella strada da roma a firenze

comunque...se viene come batman begins mi darò alla pazza gioia.

Dopo il magnifico "V for Vendetta", un altro capolavoro fumettoso di Alan Moore (stavolta, il suo capolavoro MASSIMO) è al centro dell'attenzione filmica...

WATCHMEN, nuovo regista?

Secondo quanto annunciato dal sito aintitcool.com, Zack Snyder (L'alba dei morti viventi e 300) potrebbe dirigere l'adattamento cinematografico della miniserie a fumetti creata, nella metà degli anni ottanta, da Alan Moore e Dave Gibbons.

Se le trattative tra il regista e la Warner andranno a buon fine, Snyder sostituirà Paul Greengrass. Nulla di traumatico in questo avvicendamento: il cambio alla regia era già stato annunciato lo scorso dicembre dai produttori Lloyd Levin e Larry Gordon come risultato del passaggio del film dalla Paramount alla Warner. Nuova produzione, nuovo regista e nuovo atteso sceneggiatore che scipperà a David Hayter (Hulk e X-Men) il compito di adattare il graffiante fumetto di Moore.

Con questa storia, pubblicata in dodici puntate a cavallo tra il 1986 e il 1987, continua il viaggio di Moore in una sorta di mondo parallelo. Dalla Gran Bretagna stretta nella morsa di una dittatura neofascista ci spostiamo negli Stati Uniti sotto la costante minaccia di una guerra nucleare. La vicenda, ambientata in una New York ipertecnologica,  prende il via da una morte sospetta: il Comico, un agente governativo che combatte il crimine dietro una maschera, unico eroe che può ancora fregiarsi di questo titolo e che non è stato messo a riposo dalla legge Keene, viene ritrovato morto dopo un volo dalla finestra del suo appartamento.
Rorschach, un altro eroe mascherato, indagherà sulla sua fine. Vittima del clima paranoico che si respira oltre oceano Rorschach si convince dell'esistenza di un complotto governativo ordito per eliminare i vigilantes in pensione forzata.  Le indagini apriranno un'inquietante finestra sui vizi privati e le pubbliche virtù di un gruppo molto lontano dall'ideale superoistico costruito negli anni dalla Marvel e dalla DC Comics.

Tutto confermato: il regista Zack Snider inizia WATCHMEN appena sarà lanciato il suo imminente "300" (quindi l’anno prossimo!). Sarà un unico e sintetico film - con eventuale espansione in tre ore nel DVD. Ambientazione originale nella Guerra Fredda “alternativa” nel 1985, con Nixon e Kissinger ancora a capo degli USA. CGI solo per Antartide, Marte e Vietnam (tutte cose che ci saranno!), mentre il resto sarà realistico.

Exclusive: Snyder Says No Sequels for Watchmen
The entire tale will unfold in one film.

November 13, 2006 - Director Zack Snyder has made a feature-film name for himself with genre projects, debuting on the big screen with 2004's Dawn of the Dead remake and currently putting the finishing touches on his sophomore effort, an adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel 300. In New York this week to discuss that film, Snyder also sat down with IGN to talk about his next movie — another comic book adaptation — this time of DC Comics' Watchmen. He says that he expects that film to get underway very soon.

"It's the only thing I'm really working on right now, so if I don't do that I've got to find something else!" he laughs, adding that once he completes 300 he will go directly into full gear on Watchmen. "There's no break, hopefully none, between 300 and Watchmen. They'll just roll us right over. We'll probably start Watchmen and then come back and do publicity for 300. Right now we're still finishing 300, so I'd say I've got another three weeks of shots waiting to come in. And then in the meantime I'm trying to maybe make a commercial, maybe make some money, which is cool!"

The original comic book, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons, told an epic superhero story that many in the industry have long thought to be un-filmable (the movie project has undergone several permutations in its years in development). Snyder believes that the key to the movie is to stay true to Moore's original vision, even if by necessity certain aspects of the story must be cut due to running time constraints. His Watchmen will not be stretched over a series of films with sequels and the like, despite the trend of other comic-to-film adaptations like Spider-Man and X-Men.

"It's a labor of love, and I've wanted to try to get back to the source material as much as I could without it being, of course, a six-hour long movie. And I would say the fans are probably going, 'What do you mean? You say that like it's a bad thing!'" he smiles. "I will tell you that the draft of the script is long. It's so long in fact that when we turned it in, we turned 'The Black Freighter' stuff in as a separate script so as not to scare them too much. We were like, 'Here's your script. Oh, here's your other script!' They were like, 'Oh, great!'"

"The Black Freighter" elements of Watchmen are one aspect that could be cut from the film if need be, though Snyder is already investigating avenues of release for an extended cut of the film.

"I want 'The Black Freighter' stuff in it," he says. "It will all depend on how [the studio] likes it. I feel like they don't really question it, like, 'Why, what is this?' But we've designed the movie so that it works without it. We have the places designed where that story would go and then if they want it, [they have it] for like extended theatrical or limited theatrical, or definitely for DVD. That's the one cool thing we have is DVD, and in my opinion it's not exploited nearly enough. [We could use that] to create the three-hour version of Watchmen. And [as a director] I'm totally fine with that, but I feel like that's a battle I haven't lost yet, so I'm not going to concede to it yet."

Like 300 and Sin City before it, Watchmen will likely utilize green screen backgrounds at times, with the final scenes being rendered in CGI. But unlike those earlier films, it will also feature standard scenes with real backgrounds and sets.

"We're doing some conceptual discussions about production methodology, things of that nature, things like, 'Will it be a green screen movie or will it be a real movie?' And I think that we have kind of found the reality of the movie," the director explains. "There are moments that are green screen, moments that are real. Basically I think with Watchmen it'll take every trick, every tool to get this world, this Watchmen world. I feel like probably the green screen stuff is going to be [the] Mars and Antarctica [scenes], and — of course — Vietnam. All that stuff is in the movie right now, absolutely."

Snyder and his production team are also discussing what technology they should use when depicting Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger, who in the world of Watchmen are still running the country in the mid-'80s, when the comic takes place.

"The whole trick to me is how do you do Nixon and Kissinger," he says. "It's like that fine line. I do like the idea of using some newsreel footage, but I also like the idea of making history into cinema, and trying to get someone and make him look as much like Nixon as I can, get someone and make him look as much like Kissinger as I can, so you sort of feel this cinematic version of reality, if that makes sense. One of the early battles I had [with the studio] was getting it set in 1985, getting them to stay with the Cold War, getting them to feel like Nixon is an asset to the movie, to feel like those elements match, and I'm a huge advocate of that approach. I think I have [won that battle] right now. They told me when we first talked about it, 'It's going to be the war on terror, it's going to be 2007, blah, blah, blah.' And I agreed, and I went off to do it, and of course I came back and it was 1985. I didn't try to be subversive, but that's what wound up being right."

So while Snyder and his writer Alex Tse have made strides on the project, they continue to tinker with the script and dance the dance with the studio until production starts.

"You know how it works," laughs Snyder. "The studio says, 'Make us a movie,' we give them a script, and they go, 'Hmmm, really?' And we have to go, 'Really!' So that's the part that we're at right now. And I think, honestly, I'm really happy with the version of the script we have right now. Alex has killed it and done an amazing job writing this script."

Che emozione! IL PAZZO!!!

Wow, film su watchmen? Figherrimo! Naturalmente se viene bene.. Anch'io allora devo recuperare il fumetto ( raccolto in fascicoli con la rivista Corto Maltese e mai rilegato, vergogna!) che attualmente giace in uno degli scatoloni ancora integri del trasloco.. Watchmen fu quello che mi piacque di più insieme al Batman di Frank Miller, almeno per quanto riguarda il poco che conosco degli americani ( non sono i miei preferiti nel panorama fumettistico).
